PIPER CRASHES IN THE WHITE HOUSE GARDENS

1994- Plane Crashes Into White House Lawn

On September 12, 1994 a truck driver by the name of Frank Eugene Corder committed suicide by crashing a stolen Cessna 150 into the South Lawn of the White House. Corder was the sole casualty. The motive was unknown. The President was not in the mansion at the time due to renovations, but was instead staying at Blair House, the Presidential Guest House. Questions arose as to why the White House did not deploy surface to air missiles.
